SOLAR TRAINING & CREDENTIALING

The Solar Ready Vets Network connects military talent with energizing solar career pathways. Our team is expanding opportunities and resources related to solar training and credentialing in order to support a dynamic, resilient and job-ready solar workforce.

The North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners is a widely respected and recognized certification organization for renewable energy professionals. As a key partner in the Solar Ready Vets Network, NABCEP plays a key role in expanding training and credentialing opportunities for military talent.

Whether you’re just getting started in solar, or are looking to advance your solar career, NABCEP credentials are an important step toward a powerful career. A NABCEP credential helps employers to identify top talent — it indicates commitment to the profession, and demonstrates understanding of solar fundamentals.

Spanning installation, design, technical sales and a range of other solar career pathways, NABCEP certifications can boost your earning potential, and help you to be well qualified for jobs that match your career goals.

Why earn NABCEP Certification?

✓ Validation of knowledge
✓ Increased earning potential
✓ Enhanced professional credibility

The NABCEP Photovoltaic Associate (PVA) is the most common industry credential, and offers distinction in all sectors of the industry. PVA prepares individuals for a range of careers in solar, and is often the first step toward more specialized and more advanced Board Certifications.

SOLAR CREDENTIALING FOR VETERANS

The Solar Ready Vets team has secured approvals from the US Department of Veterans Affairs for all of NABCEP’s solar certifications and credentials to be eligible for GI Bill benefits. Veterans and military personnel transitioning to the civilian workforce can now apply for reimbursement of exam fees for all NABCEP PV – related exams.

FOR SOLAR TRAINING PROVIDERS

A key objective of the Solar Ready Vets Network is to make solar training widely accessible to veterans. Ensuring that your institution and training program is registered with the Veterans Affairs is an important step to allow veterans to apply GI Bill benefits to solar courses.

Completing the WEAMS registration process will put your program on the map for prospective veteran students.

A written summary of the content covered in this video is available HERE.  Contacts for each State Approving Agency (SAA) is HERE.

When requesting an application from your State Approving Agency to register your solar class, these are the best practices you should keep in mind to ensure a timely approval:

  • Describe your solar class as a pathway towards earning a job in the solar industry and not as an elective

  • Emphasize the learning concepts of your class that veterans can translate into skills to be prepared for a solar job.

  • Check the SAA registry above to ensure that you are contacting the right state for approval (i.e. contact the state where your training institution is headquartered)

  • Contact someone who is a program representative or administrator, as they are the ones who typically receive the first request for contact and approval

  • Upon receiving an application to register your solar class with your states’ SAA for WEAMS, ensure that all information is filled out accurately and sent in a timely manner.

  • While NABCEP cannot directly contact your state’s SAA, please reach out to Project Coordinator Eric Filante  for assistance.
